How do I Get Onto the North Coast 500 Route?
The main step of getting to the North Coast 500 Pods, is to get onto the route first. This depends on where you are from, but most people will be travelling north to get there. There are a few ways to get onto the route, but the main way is to get to inverness.
To do this, you must go on the M90 motorway from Edinburgh and then onto the A9 to Inverness. To get to Edinburgh, you can go on the A68 from Newcastle upon Tyne, which is in the North of England. This is the most popular route to get to North Coast 500 Pods.
From here it depends on which way you are going round the route, clockwise or anti-clockwise. Here are some directions that you can take into account when travelling.
The Clockwise Route
This is the quickest and most effective route if you are primarily planning on going to the Pods. You can follow the A835 from Inverness. Once you get to Ledmore (a small area of Northern Scotland), you can then turn onto the A837.
You can follow this road for a while, until you eventually get close to the coast. You can then turn onto the B869, which you can follow until you get to North Coast 500 Pods. This is the quickest route, with an average time of around 2 hours.
The Anti-Clockwise Route
This way will take a bit longer, but is more efficient if you are travelling around the North of Scotland. Go along the A862 from Inverness and follow this until it becomes the A9, which you then follow too. Continue this route until you reach the A99. This is a long road which will continue until you reach the top of the North of Scotland.
Then, once you reach John O’ Groats, you will turn onto the A836. Continue this route for a while, across the top part of Scotland, until you can turn onto the A838. Eventually, this will lead onto the A894.
Around Newton, turn onto the B869, which will eventually lead you to get to North Coast 500 Pods.
