The Highlands are a special region in Scotland, being a mostly rural area and not too many people or settlements. However, it is abundant in nature, wildlife, mountains, cliffs and even beaches. In this area, you can go from tall, mountainous landscapes to quiet, relaxing coastlines with stunning views.

How should I get onto the North Coast 500 route?
The most important step of reaching NC500 Pods at Achmelvich Beach is getting onto the North Coast 500 route. This is a 500-mile route going all around the highlands, which is where NC500 Pods gets their name from. There are a couple of important ways to get onto the North Coast 500, but the most popular way is from Inverness.
To reach Inverness, you must first reach Edinburgh. You can do so by going along the A68 from Newcastle upon Tyne (located in the North of England). Once you reach Edinburgh, you can go on the M90 motorway, and then onto the A9 which will take you to Inverness.
After this, there are two ways for you to get to NC500 Pods: the clockwise direction/anti-clockwise direction.
The Clockwise Route
This way is the quickest and most efficient way of reaching NC500 Pods. To start this route, follow the A835 from Inverness. Once you get to Ledmore (a small area of Northern Scotland) then you can turn onto the A837.
Follow this road for a while, until you eventually get near to the coast. Finally, you can turn onto the B869 which you can follow until you get to NC500 Pods. This is the quickest route to get here, with an average time of around 2 hours.
The Anti-Clockwise Route
This route will take longer, but is the better route if you are first travelling along the North Coast 500 Route around the Highlands region. Go along the A862 from Inverness and follow it until it becomes the A9, which you then follow too.
Continue going along this road until you reach the A99, which will subsequently lead you to the very North of Scotland.
Once you reach John O’ Groats, you can turn onto the A836. Continue this road for a while, across the very top of Scotland, and then turn onto the A838. Eventually, this will lead onto the A898. Around the Newton area, turn into the B869, which will eventually lead you to get to NC500 Pods.
