Located in the northern region of the Highlands, Achmelvich Beach has a coastline like no other, and has been bringing people to Scotland for a long time, attracting tourists with the beautiful hills and mountains that surround it.

There are many things to participate in whilst visiting Achmelvich, as it’s situated along the North Coast 500, a five-hundred mile route going across the entire northern part of Scotland. In this article, we’re going to discuss Achmelvich Beach and why we think you should visit. It’s a place of immense beauty and we want all our visitors to experience the same beauty that we do every time we visit.

Why You Should Visit Achmelvich Beach in the Highlands, Scotland

We believe that Achmelvich Beach is one of the best places to visit for a holiday trip this year. The pandemic has caused many to reevaluate their holiday plans and go on a ‘staycation’ within the UK.

Unfortunately, in Britain, we don’t tend to have faith in our beaches. We think of the coast as one, repetitive stretch across the country, but luckily that’s just not true! Achmelvich Beach is the perfect example.

Here are some of our favourite things to do when visiting Achmelvich Beach and the surrounding area:

Swimming

Bring your swimming costume and dive in the sea for a quick swim. Enjoy beautiful turquoise waters and soft sand, almost like you’re in the Mediterranean! Be warned though: this is Scotland, and the sea can be very cold.

Golfing

If you’re a golfing enthusiast, or just fancy a silly game, then believe it or not there’s an opportunity to play on a 9-hole golf course in Achmelvich. We’d use the term ‘golf course’ very loosely here. There’s no official course or resort, but there is a place where locals and visitors alike have been playing for a few years now.

It began when a few regulars started to whack some golf balls around the grassy area above the beach. Eventually, holes started to emerge, and now we have a 9-hole golf course which even has a competition every year! We’ve compiled a breakdown of the course here, so check it out.

Fishing

As you’re at the beach, why not go fishing?

The beach is very popular with local and visitor fishers alike, with cod and haddock being some of the more common catches. You don’t just have to be out at sea however; the beach gives you some perfect spots for some rock fishing, which is great if you haven’t got sea legs.
